In House Manufacturing
In the early days all manufacturing was out-sourced but David
Haythornthwaite, the company founder, always had a long term plan to manufacture the
products in-house.
I am amazed when I read about companies being advised to out-source
their manufacturing requirements. We have done the opposite and I have no doubt it pays off.
Manufacturing our own products gives us many advantages but the
key ones are flexibility and quality control:
Flexibility
In a rapidly growing business like VetPlus it is critical to be
able to react to your customers' demands.
Many of our overseas customers are small businesses and cannot
buy in huge quantities to start with, so they may require only a small quantity but
labeled and packaged in their language of choice. We now ship to sixteen different countries
and can turn round a language specific order in less than three weeks
Quality Control
Nutraceuticals is a particularly difficult market as many of the
novel ingredients vary widely in quality. As with everything finding trustworthy and reliable
suppliers is critical but also having the ability to test incoming raw materials and final
product in-house ensures we are in complete control.
In 2008 we moved into a brand new, purpose built manufacturing plant
which effectively has more than quadrupled our capacity.
Industry Leading Standards
We pride ourselves on having industry leading quality standards to ensure the highest quality of our products.
These stringent standard operating procedures affect everything from raw material purchasing to finished product testing.
